Important Homeowner Insurance Information
- Go to Assemblymember Irwin's website to view the recording of the wildfire insurance webinar and to download these important slides from the presentation by United Policyholders or to access the chat archive with useful links and information.
- Call United Policyholders, a non profit with useful information on insurance for consumers, for help as well as the CA Department of Insurance.
- Contact an insurance broker to know if your home is insurable before you are canceled (if you do not have one, contact us for a referral).
- Please talk to your agent or broker for the latest information even if you still have insurance. State Farm must provide you with 60 days notice before non-renewal. We have been told that even if you were renewed prior to April, you may not be renewed next year because of this requirement. Get as much information as you can now.
- Ask your agent for your house's Fire Score. Read why here.
- Insurance companies are now using aerial photos to threaten non-renewal. Contact the CA Department of Insurance if you feel the photos are incorrect or the insurance company did not give you enough time to remedy the issue.
- The California Fair Plan has been inundated with applications and is overwhelmed. If your policy is not renewed and your only option is the Fair Plan, your agent can help you with the application process and help you with add ons so you have a comprehensive coverage.
