The horrific death of George Floyd captured the hearts and minds of the world and while peaceful protests were staged to promote change, criminals were plotting to take advantage while law enforcement was spread thin and had their attention elsewhere. Nearby Santa Monica took a big hit as looters broke into stores, stealing contents and lighting some on fire. Not wanting to repeat that fate, Brentwood businesses along San Vicente boarded up their storefronts en masse and hired extra security to patrol day and night. Both LAPD and eventually national guard troops were stationed here as well after rumors of a flash mob pervaded the community.
